County OKs 4 businesses to apply for stimulus-backed
bonds

No county money involved in the process

Southwest Indiana Recycling Products partner Clark Sorensen’s dream is to
create a company focused on organic compost, glass mulch and biofuels.

He represents one of four local businesses that recently received approval from
the county to apply for a chunk of more than $15 million in stimulus-backed
bonds. The process doesn’t involve any county dollars — although officials have to
sign off on the process, approved businesses must still find their own bank loans.
The bonds simply make their projects more attractive to potential bank investors.

“This allows these companies to borrow money and get their interest subsidized by
the feds,” county commissioners president Patrick Stoffers said. “This is not on
the county’s dime.”......

"We have choices to make. I suggest we make them with a clear idea of where we want to take our
community, with a plan of action, and with a sense of community and spirit of ingenuity. Patrick is the clear
choice to lead county government in this endeavor".

As president of the Monroe County Board of Commissioners the past three years, I have led county
government in making substantive operational and facility improvements and sound policy decisions. From
completion of the county's storm warning siren plan to the development and opening of the Indiana Center
for the Life Sciences in partnership with Ivy Tech Community College - Bloomington, I have tried to keep
county government broadly focused on constant improvement and pledge to continue my efforts to confront
problems with long-term solutions, make targeted infrastructure investments, and keep Monroe County
government innovative, productive, and on sound financial footing. I would appreciate your vote.
